Protest Rally by BCL at BRUR Against Remarks by Jatiya Party Leaders

BCL Takes Strong Stand Over ‘Offensive Comments’ About Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

By: Nur Islam
The Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organized a protest rally and demonstration on Tuesday in response to what they termed “insulting and indecent comments” made by leaders of the Jatiya Party about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The protest took place on campus at noon, with BCL leaders and activists joining from various dormitories, including Shahid Mukhtar Elahi Hall and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, as well as different academic departments. The rally began at 12:10 PM in front of the administrative building, passed through Bijoy Road, and briefly halted at the university’s main gate for a photo session with journalists. It then moved toward Park Mor, where a protest meeting was held.

Speaking at the rally, BRUR BCL General Secretary Md. Kamrul Hasan Nobel said:
“The history of BCL is the history of this nation, the history of our Liberation War. BCL has always been on the streets to uphold the dignity of Bangabandhu and Sheikh Hasina, and will continue to do so. We strongly condemn the provocative remarks made by Jatiya Party Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga.”

In his concluding remarks, BCL President Abu Monnaf Al Kibria Tushar added:
“We cannot accept Ranga’s derogatory comments about Shaheed Noor Hossain, a martyr of the 1987 anti-autocracy movement, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It is ironic that Ranga once attempted to join the Awami League, and now he uses such insulting language against its leader.”

He further warned: “If such audacity is repeated in the future, BCL, along with the Awami League and its affiliates in Rangpur, will be compelled to declare Ranga unwelcome in the region.”

Among those present at the protest were former BCL Organizational Secretary Mahmud-ul Islam Joy, former Publications Secretary Hasan Shoshi, Deputy Secretary Maruf Rahman Bhuiyan, Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Jakaria Jakir, as well as active BCL members Munna, Shuvo Haque, Tanvir Ahmed, Mamun Shakil, Shamim Kabir, Sagar Sheikh, and many others.
